Derrick Pereira has put pen to paper on a deal that has sealed his return to Salgaocar FC, where he spent a big part of his career as a player.
As Goal.com had reported on Tuesday, the Pune FC coach had travelled to Goa, shortly after the win against Air India, to come to an agreement with Salgaocar.
Eventually the two parties have agreed on a deal, which shall see Derrick Pereira join the club at the end of this season.
The Red Lizards coach told Goal.com, “Yes I spoke to them (Salgaocar), and I told them that I would join only after 12th May. I have agreed terms with them. I will first finish my commitments with Pune FC and then join them.”
Derrick also revealed that the club was already having trials for next season, and though the club staff would choose some of the players, he would have the final say. He stated, “When I was there, I saw the trials were going on. The other technical staff is looking after this. The final decision will be taken once I join, but I have faith in them.”
Pune FC is well known for its professional approach and good facilities. The former Mahindra United coach thus, feels Salgaocar have some catching up to do. He confessed, “I saw their training ground, and it has to be upgraded and re-done. This is something they are looking after. Facilities will improve and turf will be re-laid.”
The former Salgaocar player got nostalgic about his time at the club as a player, and spoke of how the club infrastructure has changed since then. He mentioned, “When I played, we trained at Tilak Maidan and at the beaches sometimes in the rain. Now the facilities have improved a lot, Tilak Maidan has a better turf and things will be even better.”
Derrick though, stressed on the faith he has at the staff in Salgaocar, and revealed that he would not like to dismantle Pune’s set-up, to take some of them with himself to Goa.
“At the moment I will not be taking anyone from Pune FC. At Salgaocar I know the staff, I have faith in them and most probably I will work them,” he concluded.
