thumbnail Hello,

The Churchill Brothers technical director refuses to accept that his side have won the title after opening a five-point lead over East Bengal at the top...

Churchill Brothers SC came back twice to earn a point against Dempo SC in a Round 24 match of the I-League on Wednesday, but Subash Bhowmick feels that the Red Machines can claim the title only after earning another four points from their remaining three fixtures.

The league leaders have a double tie against Mohun Bagan to which Bhowmick preferred not to give any special attention. "All matches are vital," he commented.

"I am very happy with the boys' character. Twice we went down and came back. With the chances we missed and the chances that were saved, we could have won," said the experienced tactician after the 2-2 draw with Dempo.

"There is no pressure, there is no happiness that we have won the title. We have to earn at least another four points out of these three matches. Today also, we could have won, but we drew," he added.

Another four points ensures Churchill Brothers the title and even if East Bengal win the rest of their I-League matches, they would be level on points (52) with the Goan side who have a better head-to-head record.

Since the inception of the I-League, yet another title beckons a team from Goa, but Subhash Bhowmick does not rule out East Bengal's chances. "I did not say that East Bengal cannot get those points," he remarked.

"Out of nine points, we have to get four points, if not five or six...[and in such an event] East Bengal will be looking for second or a third place as Pune FC have two matches in hand," the former East Bengal and Mohun coach concluded.
