The UAE FA has invited officials from the Indian FA as part of FIFA's desire for the country to grasp the nuances of hosting a global tournament...

In a move that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) must take seriously, FIFA has asked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) FA to invite some officials from the Indian federation to be a part of the organizing committee when the former hosts the junior World Cup this year. This move is done with an aim of helping Indian officials better understand the nuances that go into organizing a global level tournament. India is currently bidding for hosting rights for the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.

“After President Praful Patel said that India is bidding for the Under-17 World Cup in 2017 during our delegation’s recent visit to Dubai, UAE football body’s chief said that the AIFF can send its officials to be a part of the organizing committee of the upcoming junior World Cup which they are hosting in November-December,” said I-League CEO Sunando Dhar.

“The idea is to know how such tournaments are organized, which can help us in smooth conduct of the tournament provided we get it. Being part of one of their committees will help us in learning the organizational skills,” added the official.

This development is set to be the topic of discussion in the next AIFF executive committee meeting.

FIFA wants India to host a tournament on a global scale as part of its development program in the country. The nation has hosted tournaments like the Nehru Cup, South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup.

“The top countries in the world are there in the World Cup and so it becomes imperative that the tournament is hosted without any glitch. So, the UAE proposal is important in that sense,” an official said.
