The Vasco based stadium will play host to the match between Salgaocar and Prayag United on Thursday after renovation work has been completed at the venue...
The Goans have another reason to celebrate now. The Tilak Maidan at Vasco is all set to resume I-League action from April 4, 2013 when Salgaocar FC face off against Prayag United. The ground had been under renovation for quite some time now, but the wait has ended.
The venue was mooted as a possible alternative for hosting I-League matches when renovation work began at the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda in preparation for the Lusofonia Games later this year. However the matches were shifted to the Duler Stadium at Mapusa, Goa.
Officials from the four Goan I-League clubs – Dempo SC, Sporting Clube de Goa, Salgaocar FC and Churchill Brothers inspected the ground and its facilities like the changing rooms before giving an all-clear for the game on Thursday which is due to be played under floodlights. Players from Dempo, Salgaocar and Sporting had light training sessions on the new pitch at the Tilak and were quite pleased with the playing surface and the floodlights.
Members of the local organizing committee Lawrence Gomes (organizing secretary), Savio Messias and Prakash Naik (joint secretaries) were hopeful of a good response from the surrounding areas of Mormugao and nearby villages.
The VIP room, which is yet to receive a special glass enclosure, will be completed soon according to a source of Herald Goa.
