After Mohun Bagan held on to record a 2-1 win over I-League champions, Dempo SC, skipper Odafa Okolie was overjoyed and lauded his team's effort and undying spirit to see off the game, till its end.
While Odafa had squandered a couple of chances in the first half, he was content with how his team attacked.
"We pushed forward, right from the word go. It worked well too, as we got an early goal. However that did not mean we gave up trying to score, as we created quite a few more chances as well."
However he did accept that they had sat back in the second half, especially after scoring the second goal early on.
"Yes, in the second half we were a bit defensive. But that was natural since we had a two goal cushion and we wanted to preserve the lead."
As far as the Nigerian missing several sitters in the game was concerned, Odafa accepted that he was not at his best but also said that this happens to every striker in the world.
"I did miss a couple of chances all throughout the match, but that is part and parcel of the game. On another day I might have scored a hat-trick."
The Mariners skipper concluded by saying that he was happy that his team had fought well and had picked up a vital three points.
"The team really played well today. And at the end, what matters is that we picked up all three points. In the coming matches too we are aiming for maximum points, nothing else."
