Sporting Clube de Goa and ONGC played out a 1-1 draw at the Duler Stadium in Goa. The result saw the Flaming Oranje stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches despite being down to ten men with Samananda Singh given the marching orders in the 69th minute.
Dawson Fernandes opened the scoring for Sporting earlier in the 20th minute, which was later cancelled out by a Hassan Odeola in the 77th minute.
Oscar Bruzon, the Sporting coach, was happy with his team's performance, while he also had words of praise for the opposition.
After being questioned whether the draw was a setback for his team, he answered, "Practically for us, we are used to winning, and we didn't play well enough for winning the match. I am happy with the attitude of the players, but I think we didn't learn the lessons from the previous dropped points. We are having some problems dealing with it. ONGC is a compact team and they know how to play. So credit to them and we couldn't do anything more."
The Spaniard was optimistic about continuing their unbeaten run until the end of the season. He said, "Definitely (we can). Of course it is impossible to win week-by-week. So now that we have a draw in a long time, we will try and use this as a motivational tool for sure. If we can maintain an unbeaten run till the end of the season, I think that is a big thing. Almost the second phase of the season, we have been unbeaten and I'm happy."
The Flaming Oranje boss further criticised the sending off and the 'unprofessional' nature of the referee.
"He (A. Arjunan) is the same as in Pune. So it looks like these guys seem to have something against us. The I-League is getting professional and so are we and the other coaches. The referees need to be professional too. It's not a way giving a red [card] all the time. It's a serious game, there are lot of professionals, and this is not about laughing especially when you are taking all the time bad decisions; something I would like to be clear about."
The Sporting Goa coach was sent off in the match against Dempo, and when questioned if there was any misunderstanding between him and the referee, he replied, "I think I will be out against Mohun Bagan. I thought today (against ONGC) I would be outside, but I was there in the technical area."
