Tilak Maidan set for I-League action - report
The stadium's renovation work has been a protracted affair and looks set to end when Salgaocar FC take on Mumbai FC in the I-League on March 23, 2013...
Goa's Tilak Maidan will be set to see I-League action once again when Salgaocar SC welcome Mumbai FC on March 23, 2013. The stadium has been undergoing renovation work for a prolonged period. The stadium has been equipped with new floodlights and seating arrangements keeping in mind the Lusofonia Games to be held later this year.Goa Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar along with officials from the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) visited the stadium to gauge the extent of renovation work.
"Tilak Stadium is ready to host second leg matches of the I-League. The inauguration of the upgraded stadium will be done on March 23 before the Salgaocar-Mumbai FC match," Mr Tawadkar told The Navhind Times.
Tawadkar also mentioned that the ground would be used for practice matches and pre-tournament training before the Lusofonia Games. The minister had also visited the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda and a sports facility at Bambolim to oversee the construction work being done there. I-League matches, which were earlier held at the Nehru Stadium, have now been shifted to the Duler Stadium in Mapusa, Goa.
"All the renovation works at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and laying of running tracks at Bambolim ground is expected to be completed by September-October. We want the stadiums to be ready as early as possible so as to start the Games-specific preparations," said the minister.
