Salt Lake Stadium to host IPL Opening Ceremony

The 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be inaugurated with an opening ceremony on Tuesday, 2 April 2013. The event will take place at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
“The opening ceremony of the Pepsi IPL 2013 will be one of the most spectacular events ever witnessed, in keeping with what will follow in the tournament itself, over the following seven weeks,” IPL chairman, Rajeev Shukla announced on the IPLT20 web site.
Further details regarding the event are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
The multi-purpose stadium which was built in 1984 is the largest in India and the second largest in the world with a capacity of 120,000. It has an astroturf surface and falls under the ownership of the Indian Football Association (IFA).
The facility primarily caters to football matches on the domestic as well as international front while it has also played host to athletic events in the past. Its current tenants include I-League clubs, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Pailan Arrows and Prayag United.How do you stay up with football when on the move?
