Salgaocar FC dispatched a timid Shillong Lajong side when the two teams met at the Duler stadium on Saturday. A significant tie and result for both teams saw the Green brigade leapfrog to 9th place on the I-League standings above the likes of Pailan Arrows and Shillong Lajong.
David Booth was obviously pleased with the result as he commented, "If you a look at the results, how they have gone over the season, I think it is the first time we got two wins in a row."
You could call it a game of missed chances, with both teams squandering a number of goal scoring opportunities which should have been dispatched at this level. The hosts and eventual winners Salgaocar could have easily won the tie by double the margin if a few of those chances were taken.
Salgaocar’s English coach though, did not seem too concerned about the missed opportunities as he commented, “The result was more important than the game and performance today. The result was everything. The performance did not matter, winning the game was important."
Despite having mustered two wins on the trot, the Goan outfit is having its fair share of injury trouble. The latest casualty appearing to be the Singaporean import, John Wilkinson. The latter provided a quality cross which was dispatched by Josimar Martins for the first goal but did not feature in the second half.
The manager expressed his concern over his injury hit squad and said, “Wilkinson is a concern. We do not have any games in the coming weeks and I hope the injured players get back to fitness."
