thumbnail Hello,

Shillong Lajong interim manager Thangboi Singto spoke ahead of his side's vital I-League clash against Salgaocar at Goa....

Salgaocar FC will welcome Shillong Lajong in a bottom of the table clash this weekend at the Duler Stadium, Goa.  The Goan side, currently 11th in the table are just two points behind 10th placed Shillong Lajong, albeit with a game in hand. On the back of an impressive 0-2 away victory against Pune FC,  Salgaocar are expected to close that gap on their rivals over the weekend.

The first leg of this fixture, held in October last year, finished 1-1 as the Goans shared the spoils with the north-eastern side.

Coach Thangboi Singto has been fairly successful in motivating their attackers to score goals, which has been proved by the 4 they scored in the 2 games since he has been appointed. Under former coach Desmond Bulpin, who was sacked in the last week of January, Shillong had managed just a single goal in their last 6 games.

Apart from this, Singto has also managed to secure 3 points in a league fixture for the first time since November 2012 when they beat Pailan Arrows at home.

"Our captain Renedy Singh (and) including Chitra (Singh) and Govin Singh have not recovered and are still injured but Eugeneson Lyngdoh who was out in the last game due to suspension will feature in Saturday's game," Singto updated on the team news ahead of the encounter.

"We will be looking to turn things around and put up a good fight against Salgaocar," the coach added.

Focussing on his side’s poor form away to Goan sides this season, Singto says, "As our away record against the Goan teams has not been good, we want to change it by performing well against against Salgaocar."

The north-eastern side have only picked up a solitary point in their previous visits to Goa, which was a draw against Sporting Clube de Goa in January this year.

"Hopefully we play to our potential and we are going all out for 3 points. As the team look good in all respects we can change things around this time," he concluded.
