Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil: We didn't win because Fair Play wasn't adhered to by Dempo

Jamil was disappointed by the manner in which the Goan side scored their equaliser and believed that it wasn't fair to his side...

Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil was left distraught by Dempo's antics of scoring a goal instead of adhering to Fair Play in the 2-2 draw played out between the two sides on Saturday.

A moment of controversy in the 89th minute saw Dempo equalise through Koko Sakibo from a Clifford Miranda throw-in. This was after a Mumbai FC player was on ground and Yusif Yakubu sportingly put the ball out of play. However Miranda chose to not give the ball back to Mumbai FC, and instead took a throw-in which the caught the Mumbai FC backline by surprise and Sakibo made the most of the opportunity.

"Actually, I thought it was a Fair Play. We always give the ball back in Fair Play. Other-wise, Armando [Colaco] sir always stops his players from doing this (over-ruling Fair Play), but this time nobody stopped. My players thought they (Dempo) would give the ball back, but they scored a goal from the same throw-in," Jamil expressed his concern over conceding the equaliser.

"It was my dream to win against the coach (Armando Colaco) I admire so much. You could say that we didn't win because of Fair Play [not been adhered]," the Mumbai FC tactician went on to admit.

"Everything changed [in the second half]. James Singh went in and took two yellow cards within 15 minutes [of being on the pitch]. Sometimes, small things make a difference," he added.

Confusion or controversy?

The visitors looked destined to take three points from the tie after taking a 2-0 lead however Jamil was satisfied with a point against the defending champions.

"I thought we were getting three points because we started very well. We controlled the game against a good team in an away match. Maybe after we scored two goals, we thought we were winning, but it's alright. One point is okay," the 35-year-old said.

The game ended with the two teams embroiled in a scuffle over the controversial goal scored by Sakibo which ended in Clifford Miranda, the Dempo skipper, being sent-off in 90+2 minute. Mumbai FC's James Singh was given his marching orders a few minutes earlier

The former India international urged his side to put above-mentioned incident behind and move on. "We have to forget [this match], take it as a good point and move on."

"We allowed them to come back in the match in the last 10 minutes. I didn't expect that we (Mumbai FC) would take a two-goal lead initially, although there were a lot of chances early on, but our lack of concentration cost us," Jamil concluded.
