Sho Kamimura, the Japanese International who recently signed for I-League side Shillong Lajong, has made a scintillating start to his career in Indian football. Having netted two goals in the 2-2 draw against Air India last weekend, Lajong interim coach Thangboi Singto will be expectedly delighted to see his new signing hit it off right from day one.
It must be pointed that the player was in the hospital 24 hours before the kick-off due to food poisoning. To recover and come on put in such an important performance in his first game was commendable to say the least.
“It was my first game in the I-League and I was very excited. It didn't take time for me to adjust and it was not difficult to gel with the players as they all are very humble, helpful and kind. I respect all of them. I feel confident being with such talented footballers,” said the striker.
“I am enjoying myself in Shillong. I was very happy to be able to score the two goals for the team. All of them were very happy and the fans out here are wonderful. They also congratulated me and I got a lot of support from the crowd as well as the team,” added the 23-year old.
Kamimura, who was among the nominees for the Best Young Player in Singapore’s S-League last year, believes that his side can put in a top performance against United Sikkim in the coming derby.
We are working very hard at the moment. We will continue to give our best (on the pitch) by playing well against United Sikkim on Saturday.”
“It is very important for us to win the match and also play well in all our remaining games and improve our position in the league,” he mentioned.
His impressive display on his debut for earned him a place in the prestigious Goal.com's I-League team of the week. The Japanese youth international was glad to receive the recognition from Goal.com.
“I was very happy when I came to know that I was included in Goal.com's team of the week for this round. I would like to thank Goal.com for selecting me to be part of this team. I will continue to work hard and give my best for Lajong,” he signed off.
