Mohun Bagan - ONGC FC Preview: Can Odafa Okolie's return lift Karim Bencherifa's side?

The Nigerian will return to pair up with Tolgay Ozbey in Mohun Bagan's race to survival in the ongoing I-League season...

Mohun Bagan haven't had any good news after their return in the current I-League season as Karim Bencherifa's side has struggled to earn his first three points, as the Kolkatans were forced to resume their campaign with zero points on the board.

Though they have managed to draw two out of their three games so far since their suspension was revoked, with just 13 games to go, the Mariners have their task cut out needing a minimum of nine wins, as mentioned by their head coach.

The Maroon and Green look out of form and are short on match fitness but it is high time they start getting results else they would be destined to go down at the end of the season.

Can Santosh Kashyap upset his former side?

Mohun Bagan striker Odafa Okolie's three match ban ends in time for the Nigerian to feature against ONGC FC, thus making Bagan's strike-force with Australian striker Tolgay Ozbey a formidable one.

ONGC FC, on the other hand, have been slowly but surely making their presence felt by climbing up to the seventh spot. Santosh Kashyap's side have proved their mettle with impressive results against not only the bottom sides of the table but also top teams like East Bengal.

What will add an interesting twist to the game is Santosh Kashyap returning to Kolkata to face his former side in Mohun Bagan whose officials got rid of him at the start of the season after a couple of defeats. However it must be noted that he has once again restored his reputation at ONGC while Bagan continue to stutter even after bringing in Karim Bencherifa.

Mohun Bagan: Odafa Okolie is set to make his return after serving his three-match ban. Goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya will however miss the match due to an injury sustained in the match against Prayag United.

ONGC FC: Santosh Kashyap has confirmed that his midfielders Sandip Sangha and Keniston C will return to the lineup after missing the previous fixtures due to groin injuries.

  • Mohun Bagan have the highest-paid player and the coach in Odafa Okolie and Karim Bencherifa in their ranks.
  • Even if their points wouldnt have been deducted, Bagan would still have been in the relegation zone.
  • Santosh Kashyap has been unbeaten in six games since taking over ONGC.
