The win against United Sikkim has given us the confidence back – Dempo's Godwin Franco

The former Pune FC medio is pleased that his side are back on track after having had a poor string of results lately in the league...

After having failed to score in their last three away games, Dempo SC found their form on home turf against a hapless United Sikkim side last weekend as they hammered seven goals past them.

The poor form on the road has seen them drop to the third spot on the table and the game against ONGC this weekend will be crucial as anything other than a win shall see them lose further ground in the title race. It must be noted that the Oilmen had got the better of the Goan side earlier this season with a 3-1 victory which was incidentally their first win and Dempo’s first loss in the league this campaign.

“The big win against Sikkim has definitely given us the confidence back and I am sure we are on track again. We played a few games in between where things did not work out the way we had planned, resulting in loss of points. But these things happen in football and as a team we need to take it in our stride and move on,” midfielder Godwin Franco told the Navhind Times.

“Overall I think things have been great and with the 7-0 win over Sikkim the other day, I am sure the team has regained its winning momentum,” he added.

On being asked to speak on his form, Franco expressed satisfaction with his contribution to Dempo’s cause having made 11 appearances in the league with a goal to show.

“Personally, I have been playing the role of an assist. This is my third season with the club and so far I have had an extremely satisfying season considering the fact that I have been feeling at the top of my form and in the matches to come I am determined to give my best.

“All I dream of is Dempo rising back to the top and winning the I-League again this season. The competition has been tough and would remain the same over the next couple of months. But with the kind of camaraderie and unity that exists between the players I am sure things will fall in place,” he stated.

“Playing for Dempo is great. This is like a family. The players, coach and the entire support staff gel just like members of a family. I have been enjoying my experience,” he concluded.
