Mohun Bagan officials rule out resignation - report

In the aftermath of the AIFF's decision to revoke the ban on Mohun Bagan, there have been calls for the club's officials to resign who have been in the firing line...
The All India Football Federation (AIFF)'s decision to revoke the two-season ban on Mohun Bagan was indeed a victory for the officials and fans of the club. However, former Bagan players, while campaigning for a reduction on the ban, had also hit out at the Mariners' officials for bringing the club into disrepute by calling for their resignations.

However, the team of Bagan President Swapan Sadhan Bose, Secretary Anjan Mitra, Assistant secretary Srinjoy Bose and finance secretary Debashis Dutta have ruled out any rumours of them resigning after the AIFF had banned Mohun Bagan's officials from attending any meetings organized by the federation.

"Have we done anything unethical that we would resign?" Dutta was quoted saying to PTI.

"It's a big success for the club since we were able to revoke the ban. We four had tried our best to resolve the crisis. It's a big victory for us," said the Bagan official. "Our primary aim was to bring football back to the players. We have been successful in that. We will discuss our next step later," he added.

The club released a statement that thanked all the well-wishers of the club for their support through a turbulent period for the Kolkata team. "We take this opportunity to thank all our members, supporters, ex-players and present players and coaches and all our well-wishers, who stood by our club in overcoming this crisis," the club had said in the statement.

Amidst the denial that the officials would not be resigning, Bagan Executive Committee member Atin Ghosh claimed that he would be putting in his papers by today.

"The top officials should also step down taking moral responsibility. Let there be fresh faces in the club with priority to our former footballers who have achieved so much for the club," Ghosh said.
