After an impressive win against the mighty Pune FC, the Prayag United coach praised his team for their commendable display...
Eelco Schattorie, the Prayag coach, seemed satisfied with his team’s performance and said, “Yes, the boys have played good football. We looked more composed than the previous matches. I am happy with the way the boys played.”
The Dutch coach, however hailed his opponent stating that they were the most organized side of the league.
“They are most balanced side I have faced in the league. May be they don’t have many big names in their squad. But they have the right balance. They were playing counter-attack based football. It was hard to beat them.”
Lalkamal Bhowmick’s scored a wonder-goal which put his team ahead and his coach heaped praise on his strike. “That was a beautiful goal. These kind of finishes help the team in big matches. It is also great that Ranti is back into goals. It will certainly boost the team’s confidence.”
Ranti Martins already has 16 goals to his name already and has scored half of the goals his team has scored in the league. Schattorie stressed that better co-ordination among his players has helped in their improved performances in the last two outings against top teams like Dempo SC and Pune FC.
“You need time to excel. The team is improving every day. It is continuous practice that creates ability in a player. The full squad was not available to me for some weeks. Now we have bounced back and will like to continue the winning run.”
For the second successive game, Prayag didn’t impress in the first half only to look a revitalized unit after the break to score goals and seal three points.
“They (Pune FC) were the better side in the first 45 minutes. However, we came back well after the break and dominated the second half. Both the teams had a few chances. But it was the good finishing from Lalkamal and Ranti that snatched the match for us.”
Prayag now have 20 points from their 14 matches and a few good performances in the coming couple of weeks can place them in the top five. Lalkamal Bhowmick, who opened the scoring for Prayag, also sounded hopeful about his team’s chances to fight for the league title.
“We are playing good football. The team had slipped down the league table midway this season. But that was due to unavailability of some of our main players. Now with the full squad at our disposal, we expect to continue this recent form.”
The midfielder was known for his attacking instincts when at Mohun Bagan but since then he has enjoyed a deeper role in the midfield where he sits back and sprays the passes. “Scoring a goal is always special. I had last scored in the game against Pailan Arrows this season. It always feels great to be among goals," he signed off.
