East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan: The pressure is back on Churchill Brothers

The British coach is satisfied with the squad at his disposal and reveals that a fourth foreigner might be on the cards for the Kolkatan giants...

East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan claims that the pressure will be on league leaders Churchill Brothers SC after the Red and Gold brigade dismantled Salgaocar FC 4-1 in a round 14 I-League clash at the Duler Stadium, Goa.

"We (East Bengal) had to keep the pressure on Churchill [Brothers] who are on top. The pressure was back on us to get a result here, so we've done that, and now the pressure is back on them (Churchill)," he said.

"What's important for us is that we are going home from here with points. We have to go to Delhi and win on the eighth next," added the 54-year-old as East Bengal are set to face ONGC FC on Wednesday.

Yet Morgan doesn't rule out Dempo SC and Pune FC from the top honours. "I still think there are a couple of teams [in contention to win the I-League]. Dempo and Churchill have been up there. Pune FC are having a great run at the moment," he pointed out.

In Saturday's match against Salgaocar, Marcus Mascarenhas (8') put the home side ahead while Edeh Chidi's goals coming in the 36th, 65th and 81st were complimented by a 59th minute strike from Robin Singh.

Referring to the lone goal that East Bengal conceded, Morgan said, "It was a decent goal that we conceded. It was good passing and a good finish, but we got back in the game.

"Chidi's third goal was amazing - the one that he scored from outside the box. I'm pleased with him," he went on to praise the Nigerian hat-trick hero.

Analysing the match, he continued, "In the first 15-to-20 minutes, we were trying to get the feel of the pitch, and I think we started pretty well. It's never easy after a couple of bad results in the last few weeks."

"Raju [Gaikwad] was filling as the right back. He probably had a shaky start, but he got better in the game," he added.

East Bengal still have got room for one more player to complete their quota of four foreigners as the side will soon be preparing for the AFC Cup. "We've got a fourth foreigner coming in who should be arriving when we get back to Calcutta (Kolkata) or in the next week or so. We've got a good 24-man squad," said Morgan.

"At the moment, I've not spoken to the club [for any more players or replacements]. I'm happy with the players that we have at the moment," he concluded.
