Churchill Brothers - Shillong Lajong Preview: Can Desmond Bulpin's men give the Goans a run for their money?

Churchill Brothers - Shillong Lajong Preview: Can Desmond Bulpin's men give the Goans a run for their money? has a look at how Churchill and Shillong will approach in their Round 14 I-League encounter at the Duler Stadium...

A leaky defense which conceded 4 the last time Churchill took the field against Sporting De Goa will be a worry for the Goan side's manager Mariano Dias as they take on Shillong Lajong in their Round 14 I-League fixture today at the Duler Stadium. The Goans sit comfortable in third place, just 4 points behind league leaders Dempo, and have played a game less than their cross town rivals.

Shillong Lajong on the other hand last won a league fixture in November against Pailan Arrows and having seen three draws and two defeats since then, will be keen to get some points on the board.

This fixture, however faces off two teams from the opposite sides of the league table there by giving them a chance to catch up on their immediate rivals. Churchill most certainly need to capitalize on the game in hand and gain the maximum points from them to close the gap on Pune FC and Dempo.

With the team over reliant on Beto, their play is a bit predictable and here is where Shillong will have to capitalize. A defensive strategy to counter Beto's passing ability should already be in place by Shillong Lajong manager, Desmond Bulpin.

A tight match could be expected with both managers looking for a tactical win in the middle of the park. The team who keeps and moves the ball well, not to mention finish their chances will eventually gain the three points.

With Lajong fielding a 4-4-2 formation in the previous game, they will be expected to do the same here against Churchill.

A special mention to strikers of both teams here, Bineesh Balan and Antchouet from Churchill who have had a great game the last time they took the field, and Sushil Singh from Shillong, who most definitely will have to be at his clinical best to give his side the slightest of chances.

Churchill Brothers – Midfielders Tomba Singh and Bikramjit Singh are out to injuries. Israil Gurung is likely to start in the former's place in the team. The rest of the side will in all likeliness remain the same.

Shillong Lajong FC– The North-Eastern side have a combination of injuries and suspensions to make their task a lot more difficult. Lalramluaha, Boithang Haokip and Ebi Sukore are injured. However there is an outside chance of Lamraluaha and Boithang being fit to face Churchill in time. With goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte receiving a late red card in the previous game against Pune, he too is unavailable.

  • The last 5 encounters between the two sides have yielded five wins for Churchill Brothers scoring 13 goals and conceding only 1.
  • Churchill Brothers are unbeaten in their last five games.
  • Shillong Lajong FC have conceded six goals in their last five games and scored only five.
