thumbnail Hello,

Goal.com recaps all the action from round 13 of the I-league and selects a team of the best performers.

Week 13 of the I-League saw some significant results and outstanding performances both at the top and bottom of the table as the jostling for positions intensified with the season reaching its halfway point.

Both goalkeepers starred as ONGC drew 1-1 against United Sikkim. The game was up and running early as Nadong Bhutia gave the visitors the lead, only for Sachin Gawas to equalise minutes later for the hosts. There would have been more goals but for the outstanding displays of the shot-stoppers at both ends, who pulled off a number of super saves, particularly in the second half. With the result, Santosh Kashyap’s men fail to build on their promising win last week and they are in the 11th spot with 13 points. Meanwhile, the wait for Nathan Hall’s first win goes on as United Sikkim are bottom with 9 points.

Pune FC registered an impressive 2-1 result away to Shillong Lajong, further enhancing their title credentials. The Red Lizards took the lead on 30 minutes thanks to Jeje Lalpekhlua before Khanthang Paite doubled the advantage just after the break. Govin Songh pulled a goal back for the hosts on the hour mark but they were unable to find the leveller. The result means Pune go second, three points behind leaders Dempo with a game in hand, while Desmond Bulpin’s men stay 8th with 13 points.

Sporting Clube de Goa won 3-1 on the road at Prayag United, to continue their climb up the table. First Ogba Kalu Nnanna put the away side in front from the penalty spot on 5 minutes, but Ranti Martins struck soon after to even things up. However, Ogba Kalu was at it again as he got his brace on 68 minutes to restore the visitors’ lead and Joseph Pereira made sure of the three points late in second half injury time. Prayag United stay sixth while Sporting are in 11th spot with the same number of points.

The game between Churchill Brothers and Mohun Bagan was cancelled at the time of writing.

East Bengal secured a much-needed 3-0 win against Pailan Arrows. After two losses on the spin in the league, Robin Singh helped the home side edge in front before a second half brace from Sanju Pradhan sealed the morale-boosting win for the Red and Gold. With the result Trevor Morgan’s men are 4th on 24 points while Pailan Arrows are in the seventh spot.

Mumbai FC and Dempo SC played out a dull 0-0 draw. In a game where the defences held firm, chances were few and far between. However, it was the home team that fashioned the better opportunities but failed to capitalise on them. The stalemate sees Armando Colaco’s men fail to extend their lead at the top while Mumbai are in 5th spot with 20 points.

The biggest surprise of the weekend came by way of Salgaocar’s 4-0 mauling of Air India. The relegation- threatened Goan side hit the ground running racking up 4 goals in 35 minutes. Milagres Gonsalves and Augustin Fernandes were the heroes for the hosts as they took turns to score in quick succession with both netting a brace each. The result sees Salgaocar jump off the bottom and onto 10 points while the Airmen are in 9th spot with 11 points.
