Decision on Bagan may be taken by Saturday - report
The Green and Maroon were in the news for not turning up for the second half of the Kolkata Derby which was later abandoned.....
Mohun Bagan's fate in the I-League will most likely be decided by Saturday morning at an I-League Core Committee meeting in New Delhi. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had appointed a one-man commission consisting of former Supreme Court judge A.K Ganguly to help them decide whether the club's actions could be considered as a case of 'Force Majeure'.The Bagan players refused to take the field for the second half of the Kolkata Derby, citing lack of security after Syed Rahim Nabi was struck with a missile from the crowd and had to be hospitalised, on December 9, 2012.
Ganguly, who heard arguments by legal teams from Mohun Bagan and the AIFF on Monday, sent the report to the AIFF President Praful Patel on Thursday. The report will be up for discussion at the Core Committee meeting.
The committee comprises representatives of four I-League clubs namely - East Bengal, Shillong Lajong FC, Pune FC and Dempo SC, representatives of the AIFF and co-opted members Sunando Dhar (I-League CEO) and Kushal Das (AIFF general secretary).
If Bagan are found guilty, they are likely to be banned from participation in the I-League for two years. The decision will be communicated to all the clubs participating in the ongoing season of the I-League.
