The world is celebrating Christmas, Goal.com has a look at what Father Christmas would likely be asked for, by owners, managers, players and fans of the Indian clubs.
Top of the table and doing really well, there is perhaps only one thing that Armando Colaco would like. The Dempo coach would be delighted to see Santa Claus take Rohan Ricketts to the North Pole with him, after his recent outbursts on Twitter.
Churchill Brothers SC
The Red Machines were expected to struggle after letting several of their top Indian stars leave. However their foreign quartet of Bilal Najjarine, Beto, Henry Antchouet and Akram Moghrabi have been the key to their bright start in the I-League.
Their fans shall hope Father Christmas blesses the quartet with a clean bill of health for the rest of the season.
Is this the season that Pune FC's squad finally comes of age?...
The Red Lizards have climbed slowly but surely up the table and really announced themselves as contenders against Dempo in Goa, thrashing them 5-1.
Pune FC’s followers will hope that Santa Claus helps their team continue in the same vein, and finally end their wait for silverware.
The Red and Gold made a glorious start to the season and have a stupendous defensive record. However their problems infront of goal have been a real issue for Trevor Morgan’s side and he would be very delighted if Santa could just give his strikers' a pair of lethal boots!
Sitting fifth in the table, there is probably not much Khalid Jamil’s side can possibly wish for. However with a very small squad to choose from, Mumbai FC will hope Santa Claus protects their team from any sort of injuries. Especially their talisman – Yusif Yakubu.
Another splurge needed?...
Injuries, suspension and lack of quality bench strength has hurt the squad, according to Eelco Schattorie. Too many excuses?! Ask any coach in the I-League and they will be delighted to have a squad as talented as that of Prayag. With the January window round the corner, Schattorie will hope his prayers for strengthening the roster are realized.
The youngsters have had a far better season this time round and will hope that the man from the North Pole help them continue in the same vein for the rest of the season.
Employing a more direct style under Desmond Bulpin, the most ideal gift for the North-East based outfit would be blessing their forwards with the talent to score goals - which they haven't been doing.
Even Santa would be left scratching his head by the Mariners...
If Dear Santa was to fulfill the wishes of all those with Mohun Bagan’s best interest in their hearts, then his considerably deep sack would be exhausted by the time he left the Mariners faithful content. However a lenient decision by Justice A.K. Ganguly and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) over their abandoning the Kolkata Derby mid-way would be satisfactory.
10th in the table, the Airmen would be content with their showing so far. However with Godfrey Pereira unable to resolve his contract dispute with the Mumbai-based club, they have been without a permanent coach for most of the season. Hence a head coach would be the perfect gift for Air India
Santosh Kashyap won his very first game in-charge and led the Oilmen out of the relegation zone. However so far this season, unnecessary cards have seen them hand an advantage to their opponents. Hence Kashyap shall hope that Santa gifts his players some common-sense, so they can stop getting suspended all the time!
For the Flaming Oranje, some fighting spirit is needed...
Sporting Clube de Goa
Having conceded the most number of goals this season, the Flaming Oranje would want nothing more than fixing their leaky defense. It would be a rather happy new year, if Father Christmas threw in a couple of wins as an additional present.
The problems of the Gangtok-based outfit are too many. A new coach who has little experience of the I-League and a squad which is in desperate need of talent, even Father Santa will be left wondering which of their needs to fulfill.
However given some of their rather toothless displays this year, a couple of strikers would be nice indeed!
Who would have thought that the Goans would be in this position after 12 rounds of the I-League. Unstability and poor signings have really hurt the side and Santa Claus would do well to grant the organization some wisdom, so that they can sort the mess out soon, and save their season.
