thumbnail Hello, takes a look back at all the action from week 12 of the I-League and picks a team of the weekend’s best performers...

Round 12 of the I-League saw some important games at both ends of the table. While some teams continued their push for glory, others battled for survival and the contests threw up some fascinating results.

Bottom of the table ONGC secured a 3-0 win against Shillong Lajong to give new boss Santosh Kashyap a crucial three points in his first game at the helm. Eric Brown scored early in the first half to put the hosts ahead before a Katsumi Yusa’s brace after the break sealed a comprehensive win for the home side. The result saw ONGC jump off the bottom and out of the relegation zone while Shillong Lajong remain 8th with 13 points.

Dempo SC won 2-1 away at Pailan Arrows to bounce back after the humiliating 5-1 defeat at the hands of Pune FC in Goa. Armando Colaco’s men took the lead through Joaquim Abranches on 10 minutes but, Ongnam Milan Singh equalised for the home side from the penalty spot, just before half-time. However, Abranches popped up again before the hour to score the winner. With this win Dempo go three points clear at the top of the table, while the Arrows are in seventh spot.

The games between Salgaocar and Sporting Clube de Goa, Mohun Bagan and United Sikkim and also the contest between Churchill Brothers and Air India were postponed due to varying reasons.

Pune beat Prayag United 3-1 to continue their impressive run of form. James Moga and Othallo Tabia gave the hosts an early two goal lead before Vineeth cut the deficit on 51 minutes. However, Moga scored again to seal the points for the Red Lizards. Pune were dominant throughout the game and the commanding performance has put them to third spot while Eelco Schattorie’s men have struggled to put a string of wins together and are sixth.

Mumbai FC registered a 2-1 home win over East Bengal as the Red and Gold suffered their second defeat on the trot. Gabriel Fernandes scored the first goal of the game in the 64th minute with Yusif Yakubu sealing the points in the 94th minute, as the hosts made Trevor Morgan’s side pay for their uninspiring play in the final third. Chidi Edeh scored a consolation for the away side in the 97th minute. The lacklustre display sees the Kolkata-based outfit lose further ground in the title race while Mumbai are on 19 points on the fifth place.
