The Shillong Lajong gaffer lamented his side's poor defending in the 3-0 defeat to ONGC at the Nehru Stadium on Saturday...
Shillong Lajong squandered a chance to get into the top half of the league table as they suffered a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of ONGC in Delhi on Saturday. The north eastern side have 13 points from their 12 games and are placed eighth on the league table.
Desmond Bulpin, the Scottish manager of the side, was understandably disappointed with the result and rued the missed opportunities.
“I thought we were the better side today. We had more share of possession. But we couldn’t really convert our chances,” he said.
Shillong Lajong are now on a four-match winless streak and stuck in the mid-table with bottom placed teams breathing down their shoulders. Bulpin claimed that a sense of over-confidence had affected the performance.
“The players looked somewhat complacent. It took its toll.”
Bulpin also praised the performance of Yusa Katsumi, the Japanese winger of ONGC, who scored a brace in the match, driving ONGC home. He also expressed his displeasure with the porous defence of his side.
“We gave away free goals. Two of them were counter-attacks. We have to work on the defence. Renedy (Singh) also was not at his best today,” he signed off.
