The Duler stadium in Mapusa, Goa is set to host I-League matches according to an inspection committee that visited the ground on Tuesday. The committee comprised of officials from the four Goan I-League clubs - Dempo SC, Sporting Clube de Goa, Salgaocar FC and Churchill Brothers and those from the Goa Football Association (GFA). The commitee evaluated the stadium with certain parameters that an I-League ground must have and decided that the venue would be suitable for hosting matches. Salgaocar chairman Raj Gomes, on behalf of the commitee, drafted a letter to the Acting General Secretary of the GFA Alvaro Pinho with their observations.


Gomes reported that the playing surface was in good condition and that more matches would need to be played on it for it to improve. Also it was pointed out that fencing had to be erected to connect the compound walls on the Eastern side of the ground.

Duler Stadium is likely to host the I-League matches for the Goan teams


The committee observed the dressing rooms for the players were being refurbished and facilities would be made available to the players.


It was decided that the existing Conference Hall which was next to the Home Team dressing room would be converted into a Doping Room equipped with necessary facilities.


The Referee Room would be next to the Office at the ground level with all facilities provided as per requirement.


Office would be equipped with facilities such as FAX, photo copier, computer with internet.


Dug out for participating teams and the Fourth Official will be made ready.

18-to-20 security personnel oversaw the league matches at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. Only four security persons are needed for the four gates at the Duler. The remaining security men would be posted in the stands as Bouncers to take care of any untoward incident.

In addition, Adlear D'Cruz of the GFA has been charged with supervising the pending work at the Duler and ensure that they are completed by December 22, 2012 in addition to bringing the equipment/items required for the Doping Room, Dressing Rooms, Office Room, Referees Room and the Players Dug Outs along with chairs from Fatorda Stadium to Duler.

Pinho, then drafted a letter to Sunando Dhar, the CEO of the I-League, based on Gomes' observations. The letter requested Dhar to consider postponing the I-League matches which are to be played on December 22 at the Nehru Stadium between Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar FC followed by Churchill Brothers taking on Air India on December 23rd.

Pinho also informed Dhar that Round 13 matches of the I-League would be held at the Duler and that they would need to be played in the afternoon owing to the unavailability of floodlights at the venue. In addition none of the matches to be played at the Mapusa venue would be telecast live. Pinho assured Dhar that the I-League matches at the Duler would be held with the necessary precautions and procedures in a professional manner.
