The acting general secretary of the Goa Football Association (GFA), Alvaro Pinho told The Navhind Timesthat the ground has to meet certain criteria set by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to be declared a suitable venue to play league matches.
"The four I-League club representatives will inspect whether these minimum requirements are met or not and then accordingly get in touch with the AIFF with their suggestions," he disclosed further.
The clubs believed that the Duler was the best option available right now as it was equipped with the newly-laid FIFA turf and could be the best alternative venue to host matches of the I-League and the Goa League. The Tilak Maidan at Vasco which was originally conceived to be the natural I-League alternative venue for the Nehru Stadium is not yet ready and a decision could reportedly be taken on that venue only next month.

The teams have reportedly begun practicing at the Duler stadium and that the granules in the pitch will take time to settle down as more games are played on it. The Goa Pro League match between Dempo SC and Salgaocar FC will be the last match to be played at the Nehru Stadium before renovation work starts.
In light of this Salgaocar FC, Churchill Brothers and Sporting Clube de Goa have drafted letters to the AIFF requesting them to postpone their Round 12 I-League home fixtures which were to be played on December 22/23 due to the unavailability of the Nehru Stadium.
As per the schedule, Sporting and Salgaocar will face-off at the Nehru Stadium on December 22 while Churchill Brothers take on Air India the following day. Dempo SC will be travelling to Kolkata to face Pailan Arrows on December 22.
