Pune FC manager Derrick Pereira revealed how he is glad to be coaching a side as talented as the present roster at his disposal at the club....
After Dempo were defeated by a margin of 5-1 by Pune FC, Derrick Pereira was one happy man having master-minded his side's triumph over the defending I-league champions.
"We were working with a limited budget, so I told the management to wait till we get the right player. And then we got Paite. I am very thankful that we got him, as we were always looking for a left winger who is a left-footer. Earlier it was Abhra Mondal, when we needed a number one goalkeeper, now it's Paite. So, I frst of all thank God for this champion side. I would like to dedicate this win to my coach who is no more. I have learnt a lot of things from.”
When asked about how he thought his side fared in Goa, where recently ,results have been positive for Pune FC, he said,” I knew we would be getting chances but then against a team like Dempo, scoring 5 is great. It’s a big win for us.”
“I think we started the game playing according to our plan, defended deep, not allowing them any space. Although we were jittery in the beginning whenever they attacked us, but then we had 3 or 4 clear chances through which we could have increased the lead in the first half itself.”
“In the second half of the match , I think we did well going forward and I thought it was a great performance,” the former Mahindra United coach further added.
When asked about what his side could achieve in the league standings, Pereira honestly replied, ”The league is still in it's early phases and very competitive. I like to take it one match at a time. We have got a good side, it’s one of my best sides that I have ever got. There’s lot of scope to improve. The initial aim was to finish in the top half.“
When asked about his side competing in the AFC cup, he said, ” I always believe when you keep working hard, keep improving, anything can happen in Indian Football. It is an aim for the future and if God is willing, we will achieve it this year only.”
“It is always nice to play in such a ground. Fans like to watch good football, so I tell the players to play according to plan and get the results. At half time also, I just told them to go about the game as per our plan and don’t think about the opposition, and focus on the basics of the game."
