We do need another goalkeeper as a backup – Dempo SC coach Armando Colaco

Armando Colaco, the Dempo SC coach, mentioned that his team needs to have a backup for goalkeeper Subhasish Roychowdhury.

Dempo do have Tyson Caiado and Laxmikant Kattimani but neither of the two have proved to be an able replacement for Subhasish when the latter is injured or rested.

On being asked whether he is pleased with the squad at his disposal, Colaco said,” Probably I need another goalkeeper. The best thing is when I was not there (unwell), Maurice (Mauricio Afonso) took over and when my starting eleven players are not there, other players take over. Like you see Romeo (Fernandes) and (Joaquim) Abranches played well. I am very happy with them. If he (Romeo) goes on playing like this, it will be good for our matches. But we can do much better by finishing up the chances created.

The defending champions had to wait until the 84th minute when Ryuji Sueoka scored the winner after Sean Rooney had cancelled out Rohan Rickkets’ first half strike.

“Games between Dempo and Salgaocar have always been very close in the past and after a very tiresome game to come back fighting, they (my boys) hardly had one days rest.

“I’m happy to get three points and it was a good match. Salgaocar played well. I’m happy the boys are delivering. What else can I ask for? Happy with the way they are,” said Colaco.

The Dempo coach went on to highlight that it is difficult to stay on top of the table but was critical of the schedule which saw his side play three games within a week.

“The boys believe in themselves they know that they can win. Although I was critical of the performances in the last game but I think anyone playing back-to-back matches three times, even Salgaocar, would struggle. But I am happy that teams played well.”
