Week 9 of the I League featured quite a few goals and some crucial games between teams with contrasting moves. While some were looking to advance to the summit others were battling to escape the dreaded drop.

Pailan Arrows cruised to a 4-1 win over a depleted ONGC FC, who were again down to ten men for more than half an hour in the match, as their goalkeeper Prasenjit Ghosh was sent off for bringing down Alwyn George in the penalty box. The away side will look back at the red card as a turning point, but, were in fact fortunate not to lose by a heavier margin. The result sees them rooted to the bottom of the table.

East Bengal were held to a 0-0 draw by Shillong Lajong in a game where the defences were on top. The point sees the hosts build on their win against Pailan Arrows while the Red and Gold stretched their unbeaten run in the league to nine games but unfortunately now find themselves in the second spot.

Dempo SC capitalised on the Kolkata side’s slip up in the North-East as they registered a hard fought 1-2 win to struggling Salgaocar. In a game where both sides were guilty of losing possession easily, Ryuji Sueoka scored the crucial late goal for Armando Colaco's side. The result sees Dempo reclaim top spot while their fellow Goans are second from bottom.

Churchill Brothers SC were held to 0-0 draw by United Sikkim, as the away team failed to convert any of the chances as they failed to take home all three points. The result sees Churchill Brothers lose ground at the top of the table while Bhaichung Bhutia’s team remain firmly in the bottom half.

Mumbai FC continued their good run of form as they downed Prayag United 3-2 at the Salt Lake Stadium. Khalid Jamil's side have now picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in their last five games while his counterpart, Eelco Schattorie slumped to his second successive loss.

In a game where both sides were desperate for a win, Air India secured a narrow 1-0 result away to Sporting Clube de Goa. Baldip Singh’s first half strike was enough to see the Airmen take home the spoils, as they lift themselves off the bottom. The home team will feel desperately unlucky though, having squandered some good chances particularly in the second half.

Mohun Bagan came back from 2 goals down to secure a confidence-boosting 2-2 draw against Pune FC as the impressive Odafa Okolie scored a brace late in the second half. The hosts though, let a 2 goal lead slip in the last fifteen minutes. The result leaves the sides just two points off each other with Bagan having played a game more.
