The Mumbaikars stunned the high profile team from Kolkata in their own den and coach Khalid Jamil was all praise for his boys...
Mumbai FC are going through a purple patch of form over the last month or so. They have garnered 13 points from a possible 15 in their last five matches, with the two dropped points being against Mohun Bagan who were lucky to escape with a draw.
Prayag United, a team who spent massively over the summer and brought in a host of stars, were left dumbfounded when Yusif Yakubu scored the winner in the fourth minute of the injury time at the death to seal the three points for his side.
Coach Khalid Jamil hailed the Ghanaian striker’s presence of mind as he capitalised on the mix-up between Lal Kamal Bhowmick and goalkeeper Ishan Debnath, who was handed a start over India number one Subrata Paul given the latter’s poor run of form this season.
“Yakubu scored a good goal and it only highlights his presence of mind which comes with experience. The boys were confident of a win.
“The introduction of Abhishek (Yadav) was the key as he scored an important goal. Ishan (Debnath) was with us last season and we knew him very well. Hence we targeted him throughout the game,” said Jamil.
Several high profile names in the Prayag lineup failed to impress as the Kolkata outfit is yet to keep a clean sheet which only goes on to highlight the defensive problems they have. However Jamil took time to praise his opponents only to stress further on the importance of this win over them.
“Prayag are a good quality side. We are feeling very good after beating them. It was a morale boosting victory for us..
“We are going with the flow and there is no pressure on us. We have to focus on our next game against Air India in Pune as it is an important match,” he signed off.
