Dempo SC president is West Zone's representative for AIFF Vice President post - report
The Goa Football Association (GFA) nominated Dempo SC president Shrinivas Dempo to represent the West Zone in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) elections on December 20
In a week where Dempo SC has been at loggerheads with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regarding the Climax Lawrence suspension issue, the decision by the Goa Football Association (GFA) to nominate Dempo president Shrinivas Dempo as the West Zone representative to contest the AIFF elections for the post of Vice President (VP), will come as good news for the Goan club.According to The Navhind Times, Dempo was chosen almost unanimously during the GFA Executive Meeting, as the members of the meeting felt that he would be able to form a fruitful link between the AIFF and the GFA due to his stature in the country's football scene. His nomination was also attributed to the fact that he owns one of India's most successful clubs in Dempo Sports Club Pvt Limited.
GFA vice president (north) Mr Lavinio Rebello along with executive members, Gajanand Kerkar, Babli Mandrekar, Lawrence Gomes, Schubert Furtado, Welwyn Menezes, Uday Lingudkar, Prakash Naik have also backed Mr Dempo for the AIFF VP post from West Zone, echoing strong support for the GFA chief.
In addition to Dempo's nomination, the members of the GFA also gave a vote of confidence to incumbent AIFF president Praful Patel to retain his position at the helm.
The GFA also gave an insight into their plans for the Duler stadium which the state federation owns. According to federation officials, the ground will be ready for inauguration on December 20 and will be equipped with the new FIFA turf. The stadium will be inaugurated with an exhibition match involving GFA XI (Executive Members) and Goa MLAs XI to be played on December 20.
