Gabriel Fernandes is pleased that he is getting more opportunities to prove his mettle at Mumbai FC following his move from Sporting Clube de Goa. He has been in good form lately having scored a goal in two of the last three games, including one against his former side.
“The coach (Khalid Jamil) likes my game and has confidence in me. So I am happy," said Fernandes.
The 24-year old stated that Mumbai FC have some fine set of youngsters who are ready to make the step up into the first team, if not this season definetely the following one.
"Jayesh Rane, Ashutosh Mehta and Rohit Mirza are some of the budding youngsters at our club," he mentioned.
Mumbai FC didn't enjoy the best of starts to their league campaign as they lost their opening four matches. However they have sprung back into form and have garnered seven points from a possible nine in the last three outings.
Fernandes has played his part as well by scoring crucial goals in Mumbai FC's win over Sporting Clube de Goa and Shillong Lajong.
"I would like to give my 100% and contribute by scoring goals. I hope we finish at the top half of the table at the end of the season," he stated.
Fernandes was named in Goal.com's I-League Team of the round 6 for his top performance against Shillong Lajong. When asked how motivating it was to be part of the elite list, Fernandes said, "I am very happy to be there in the team of the week and I will try my best to remain there.”
