thumbnail Hello,

Dempo head coach cum secretary Armando Colaco is determined to prove that Climax Lawrence was wrongfully banned by the Indian FA and will explore a legal approach to do the same

Dempo SC are reportedly pulling out all stops to prove that the club's veteran midfielder Climax Lawrence was wrongfully banned after the player was found guilty of misbehaviour during their game against East Bengal on November 3 at Kolkata.

According to the The Times of India, should the All India Football Federation (AIFF) not revoke Climax's ban before the Goans take on Mohun Bagan on November 28, then Dempo would seek a legal recourse. Climax has already served one-match suspension in the weekend encounter against Air India.

"I want to show to everyone how the AIFF have faulted and selectively targeted us. The decision to suspend Climax should have been taken by the disciplinary committee," said Colaco to The Times of India. Colaco was referring to a provision in the AIFF disciplinary code that states that, "an appeal may be lodged to the Appeal Committee against any decision passed by the Disciplinary Committee, unless the sanction pronounced is: a warning; a reprimand; a suspension for less than three (3) matches or of up to two (2) months."

Climax Lawrence has been banned for two matches and thereby ensuring that Dempo cannot take up the matter with the Appeals Committee. "If the ban was imposed by the Disciplinary Committee,I would have not pursued the matter. We do not want to take the AIFF to court, but as things stand now, we may be forced to see legal recourse," said Colaco.

The AIFF had issued a showcause notice to Armando for allegedly entering the pitch illegally for which the 59-year old Goan replied through a letter. The Indian FA then proceeded to slap a ban on the club's midfielder Climax, for misbehaviour towards the the referee Ajit Meetei during the game. Colaco then replied to this decision via another letter.
