Bencherifa indicates attacking role for Syed Rahim Nabi

The 44-year old former Salgaocar and Churchill Brothers coach highlighted his plans for the 27-year old Mohun Bagan utility player.
It is always handy to have a utility player in a football team to be called upon whenever and wherever the time requires it. Household names like Inter's Javier Zanetti and Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez comes to mind. India and Mohun Bagan's Syed Rahim Nabi is one such player from whom the coaches have the guarantee of obtaining a convincing performance no matter which position he's deployed in.

It is this fact that new Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencherif

a wants to exploit as he takes charge of the Kolkata side ahead of the Mariners first game against Mumbai FC. "Having spoken to him, I feel Nabi has the confidence to keep performing when positioned in goal-mouth areas. He's a utility footballer and now onwards he will be operating in the attacking-third. Maybe I can think of sending him up front with Odafa Okolie at some point of time," said Bencherifa to The Telegraph.

The 44-year old Moroccan, who joined Bagan from Salgaocar, has prepared separate sets of exercises for each of the players. The likes of Odafa, Denson Devadas and Dipendu Biswas underwent light physical training, while the team that featured in Tuesday's Calcutta Football League (CFL) encounter had stretching and other warm-up exercises in store.

"There's nothing to worry about the fitness of the players. It's absolutely okay. Besides, if you look at Odafa, he has special abilities that help him improvise and work his way to success," said the Moroccan.
