Mumbai FC thumped Shillong Lajong 4-1, and after a poor start to the season, seem to have turned the corner with their second win on the trot.
Khalid Jamil looked relieved to finally move away from the relegation zone and commented, “It is now two wins on the trot. We must keep this up. The boys are playing well and we are scoring goals and not conceding as many.”
Up against another physical side in the form of Shillong Lajong, the Mumbai-based side definitely came out trumps in the physical battle, as two of their goals came from set-pieces.
Giving an insight on the tactics they employed to neutralize the threat posed by Desmond Bulpin’s side, the former Indian International revealed, “We had planned to counter their direct style of football. But they still scored a goal with a headed effort from a cross. We also worked around their method of pushing high up the field with our movement upfront. The boys played out the game-plan to perfection and I think we did well.”
The Mumbai FC coach though, had a few words of praise for his Shillong Lajong counter-part.“I think we need more open-minded coaches like him. He shall help improve the game in India. He is such a good motivator of players and also a very good coach,” Jamil stated.
