Our plan against East Bengal failed - Churchill Brothers' Mariano Dias

The Goan side's head coach wasn't satisfied with his team's midfield after going down to East Bengal by three goals at home...
Churchill Brothers SC suffered a 0-3 loss to East Bengal which was their heaviest defeat of the season, in round six of the I-League, on Saturday.

The Red Machines tactician Mariano Dias conceded that their plan against the Kolkatan side failed in the match. "Our plan failed against East Bengal. We had a different plan which did not work out," he said after the match.

"We were supposed to mark [East Bengal midfielder] Penn [Ikechukwu Orji], who was the game-maker, but it did not work out," he went on to reveal.

"They (East Bengal) scored, particularly the first goal which we allowed them to score, and that was the turning point. In fact, we could not come back."

Although Churchill Brothers had more of the chances in the match, Dias mentioned that the visiting side defended very well. "They (East Bengal) defended very well. We also had some chances," he said.

The Churchill coach also pointed out that his side's midfielders didn't support the strikers who were left all alone on up front on most occasions.

"The strikers were not up to the mark," he admitted. "But our midfielders were also not helping them. There was no support from the midfield. When strikers had the ball, they (the midfielders) should be supporting the strikers which was not happening," he analysed.
