Bhaichung Bhutia, United Sikkim’s co-owner, acknowledged that it was difficult for him to swallow the 10-1 humiliation meted out by Prayag United last Saturday.
Bhutia, who was suspended from the game following his expulsion against Pailan Arrows, hadn’t travelled with his side to Kolkata for the match against Prayag United.
“At the outset I would like thank all our fans for your support. It is indeed very difficult for me to accept such a humiliating defeat,” Bhaichung communicated to fans through the club’s official Facebook page.
United Sikkim started their I-League campaign by defeating Salgaocar FC and lost to East Bengal and Dempo SC by a one-goal margin. Against Arrows, they were held to a goalless draw. However in their first outing on the road, the club failed miserably on all fronts.
“It was our first away match and we expected a decent run. However I hope our fans will be there during our difficult moments,” said Bhutia.
“Ours is a young team and we are growing with experience. We thank our fans for their suggestions and for their positive criticism. It is indeed a tough moment for me. I, as a co-owner of USFC, am fully responsible to bring the club to its righteous position and motivate the team; our fans mean a lot to us,” he added.
