If goals are what excite you, with 29 goals in 7 games, entertaining football was definitely not in short supply in the I-League this matchweek.

The pick of the matches was definitely the one involving Prayag United and United Sikkim FC. Ranti Martins scored 5 and inspired his side to a 10-1 victory. The kind of game that a watching spectator would never forget. After all the controversy regarding the coach’s role at the club, Eelco Schattorie could not have asked for a better start at the helm of the Kolkatan side.

Mumbai FC’s win over Sporting Club de Goa was the other standout contest of the matchweek, as Khalid Jamil’s side looked dead and buried at 2-0 down. However they showed great resilience and eventually registered a 3-2 win to kickstart their season.

Pune FC also bounced back after successive losses to East Bengal and Churchill Brothers by finally breaking their Kolkata voodoo, registering a straightforward 2-0 win against Pailan Arrows.

Dempo SC continue to lead the pack, as they registered a thumping 4-1 win against Shillong Lajong, in what was a very forgettable week for the two North-East based I-League sides.

Churchill Brothers kept the pressure on their fellow Goan’s at the top of the table, registering their fourth straight win on the bounce against Salgaocar FC, by a scoreline of 2-1.

East Bengal too continued their unbeaten start to the season with a clinical 3-0 win over Air India, who were completely outclassed in the encounter at Pune.

ONGC meanwhile managed to hold on for a point against Mohun Bagan in the only game of the gameweek that failed to produce a goal.
