The 64-year-old was disappointed with the result after his team conceded a late goal against Churchill Brothers...David Booth made an inauspicious start to his stint as the head coach of Salgaocar FC as his team went down to Churchill Brothers SC 2-1 on Friday evening.
The Englishman was impressed with the performance of his boys despite the defeat, given that the margin of defeat was merely a goal.
"It's (the defeat) nothing to do with my first game," he said after the match.
The former Mumbai FC coach stressed that it was important for the defenders to remain focused till the final whistle.
"It took us a while to get going in the first half, but we had the momentum going our way in the last 15 minutes. It was our game except for the goal (Henri Antchouet) in the second half," Booth pointed.
"At that particular point, the defenders have to make sure they don't lose the game. So there's something you have to learn," he added.
The experienced coach also believes that Salgaocar needs more men in the box to convert the number of chances they manage to create.
"The players were on par but we need to get more players in the box. I thought we played well, the boys did well and controlled the game for most of the second half."
"I'm disappointed in the result, definitely, but I'm not disappointed in the performance. We passed the ball well, we also moved well and created a lot of openings. It's easy for me to say that I didn't think we didn't deserve to lose, but all said and done with three minutes to go you don't give goals away," he concluded.
