thumbnail Hello,

After ONGC had already booked their place in next season's I-league, it was United Sikkim's turn to book their place, as they secured a draw against Mohd. Sporting

This is how the final table of the I-league Division two looks like after the final match was played out between two teams who were hoping for qualification - Mohammedan Sporting and United Sikkim SC.

ONGC had already scripted their comeback into the elite division after being relegated last season as they finished with 22 points after a draw in their last match to bottom placed Aizwal FC.

However it was not until the last round of matches, that it could be decided which out of Mohd. Sporting and United Sikkim SC would join ONGC to play with the big boys in Division I.

As luck would have it, Mohammedan Sporting were on 20 points before the match and United Sikkim on 21 points.

Mohammedan Sporting needed to win as sharing points would mean they would still be behind the Sikkimese side by a point. On the other hand Bhaichung Bhutia's boys could walk away with qualification with even a draw.

A Daniel Bidami penalty in the 42nd minute saw the Snow Lions taking the lead which they held on till Alfred Jaryan equalized in the 59th minute. But as the scoreline stayed level on 1-1 all the way till the end of the match, the side from Kolkata were eliminated and the men from Sikkim booked their place in the top tier of Indian football.

Infact not only that, they also topped the standings. A better Head to Head against ONGC allowed them to finish on top although the two sides were tied on 22 points a piece.
