I-League: East Bengal - Mohun Bagan
AIFF

The unpredictability and exciting nature of the I-League was further illustrated in matchweek 19, as none of the top four teams could garner a win.

All the eyes were firmly fixed on the Kolkatan derby, and the two teams involved in it, arch-rivals East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, did not disappoint in a 1-1 draw. However the gloss from a very entertaining match played at a good tempo was taken away by the controversy over refereeing decisions during the game which left both set of supporters unsatisfied.

Dempo though failed to take advantage of this latest slip-up by their title rivals, as they slumped to a 1-0 loss against Pune FC at home, as the away side showed far more hunger for the three points at stake.

Pailan Arrows search for a win in this I-League campaign meanwhile shall be stretched for atleast one more week, as they succumbed 2-0 to a John Menyongar inspired Shillong Lajong.

Mumbai FC then put some distance between themselves and Chirag United Kerala, as they stunned overwhelming favourites Churchill Brothers 2-1, in an I-League encounter at the Balewadi sports complex in Pune.

It might infact prove to be a decisive win for the Mumbai-based club, as Chirag United themelves seem incapable of putting together a two match winning streak, suffering a morale crushing 3-0 loss at home to Sporting Clube de Goa.

HAL Bangalore too saw its hopes of a late surge to safety dashed, as they were edged out by a scoreline of 2-1 by Air India.

Salgaocar SC, on the other hand, continue to climb upwards, as they saw off Prayag United’s challenge with a 1-0 win at the Fatorda stadium in Goa. The defending champions are now the dark horses in the title race, as they seem to be carrying good momentum into the last seven games of the league.
