East Bengal vs. Mohun Bagan Fanview: Who is going to prevail on Saturday

As yet another Kolkata derby is upon us, Goal.com's Arkaprabha Chakraborty asked its citizens a simple question...

As we have yet another Kolkata Derby looms large, we need to give you no introduction as to how fiercely the Ilish (hilsa, East Bengal's 'symbol') vs. Chingri (prawn, Mohun Bagan's 'symbol') debate is divided.

We've heard lots of strange predictions, justifications and scenes over the years, and now we, here at Goal.com, asked five die-hards from each side "Why will your side win?" (It is pointless to ask either fan 'WHO' will win. No one concedes an analytical inch). Prepare to go into stories of the illogical. But then what is a football fan who doesn't think with his heart?

EAST BENGAL

Shirsho Dasgupta feels that with the team as well balanced as East Bengal, they cannot lose against Mohun Bagan. He identifies Odafa Okolie as the only threat Mohun Bagan possess while any other member from the opposition as average.

Sarthak Chatterjee is a bit more sober after the Prayag United defeat, but confident that their rock steady form will lead them to glory on both the league fronts (the Calcutta Football League AND the I-League) in the long run and particularly in the Kolkata derby.

Apratim Chattaraj arrogantly proclaims that 'come the moment come the men' and is confident that their temporary blip last time out notwithstanding, they will easily crush Mohun Bagan. Also it will take a miracle for Mohun Bagan to win, if not get a severe thrashing.

Amit Roy says that he has just two words for the Mohun Bagan defence - Tolgay Ozbey. He will be very impressed if they can stop the man in-form and if they can, he will bitterly concede they will have been deserving winners.

Shrutakirti Dutta is the most worried out of the lot. She would love to see East Bengal snap this losing streak against their fierce rivals. She is a bit nervous about Odafa and Barreto, but believes East Bengal can hold out for a win. She predicts Penn Orji to hit in the winner.

vs.

MOHUN BAGAN

Tirthankar Mukhopadhyay says that everything is pointing towards a Mohun Bagan victory and a crushing one at that. In Odafa, they have the finest striker in the league and having Sunil Chettri and Jose Barreto up with him, it would be too much for anybody to handle.
Syamantakshobhan Basu says that he comes from an entire family of Mohun Bagan maniacs and even if he is unsure as to which way the tie might swing, Mohun Bagan will have to be his answer if he doesn't want to get murdered!
Rohitashwa Sarkar says that it is difficult having to deal with parents across the divide when it comes to derbies. Where his father is an East Bengal supporter, his mother goes for Mohun Bagan. And whoever wins will have to cook dinner. Since he loves his food, he is praying for a Mohun Bagan win, frankly confessing his dad is a terrible cook!
Saptarshi Dutta has been a lifelong Mohun Bagan supporter and a veteran such as himself doesn't want to analyse anymore. He just KNOWS. However, he does pick Jewel Raja to be the surprise package, just as he was against Pailan.
Disha Roychaudhuri is a lover of prawn. It seemed only natural to support Mohun Bagan so that she could have an excuse to bring prawns into the house. She will dress up in green and red and praying for a Bagan victory.
