Having just had Indian international Sushil Singh join their ranks, Shillong Lajong FC's head coach Pradhyum Reddy expressed his delight at his latest signing.
"[With Sushil] we have all the advantages of a seasoned international and an Indian national joining our ranks. He won't be like a foreign recruit needing to acclimatize to the region, the conditions. And having played for top teams like Mahindra United and East Bengal, he brings a wealth of quality and experience to the team" gushed Reddy.
He left no one with any doubts as to the importance of the role Sushil along with other star January signing Renedy Singh would play in the team.
"Sushil could be the difference between this team being a mid-table side and rising higher. He and players like Renedy are really those you need to add that little extra during the tight games."
"We have a pinpoint crosser and dead-ball specialist in Renedy, so I was looking out for someone with quality who could attack the ball in the box and Sushil fits the bill perfectly."
"We definitely could not have asked for a more fortuitous transfer window, having added players of the quality of Renedy Singh and Sushil" he opined.
He appeared coy on the idea of further signings without altogether ruling it out.
"29 of out 30 I-League squad slots are filled and we've signed a midfielder and a forward, so ideally we would sign a defender to complete our squad," said the Scottish-born coach.
On the subject of the Dempo match where they outplayed their illustrious opponents but harshly ended up without a positive result, Reddy emphasized the need to take heart from the performance and look forward.
"Well, it was just very bad luck. The boys performed really well and received compliments from Armando [Colaco] and several other I-League coaches as well. Dempo are one of the top, top sides of the country and we being a newly promoted side outplayed them for most of the match."
"Last time out we lost 5-0 and this time we performed really well but just couldn't manage the result. We really need to keep this level up. If we perform for the last 10 games the way we did against Dempo, we could see a rise much further up than our present position." signed off Reddy.
