Massive wins, huge upsets, controversy and nail biting finishes, all that a football fan can hope for, was served in the I-League round 16 matches.

In Pune, the match between Air India and Pune FC lived up to its billing of the “Maratha” derby, as the two teams fought tooth and nail until the very last minute, with the Red Lizards coming from two goals behind to snatch an equaliser in injury time.

Salgaocar SC showed that the recent revival in their form was no flash in the pan, as they handed out title challengers and fellow Goan outfit, Churchill Brothers a 3-0 thrashing.

The very next day on the same venue, Sporting Clube de Goa lit the fireworks, as they out-classed and outfought a sorry looking Mumbai FC side 5-0.

The two giants of Kolkata football, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, had contrasting fortunes as the Red and Gold Brigade defeated a stubborn HAL Bangalore side 2-0, while the Mariners slumped to a loss against fellow Kolkata side Prayag United, as Sanjoy Sen’s men overpowered Bagan 2-1 in a closely fought derby match.

There was loads of controversy in Shillong though, a win slipping from the home side's grasp as two late goals by Ranti Martins, the second from a debatable penalty in the dying stages of the game, gave Dempo SC three vital points.

The clash between Chirag United Kerala and Pailan Arrows meanwhile was postponed as the former's home stadium would be in use for the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL).
