I-League round 15 turned out to be a goalfest, with an average of 3 goals a game with most of the matches having some real end-to-end action. It was also a very decisive round, as all the  seven games saw a winner at the end of it.

East Bengal ruthlessly exposed the difference between men and boys, as they handed the youngsters of Pailan Arrows a 4-1 thrashing at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Shillong Lajong headed into the matchday on a high, having signed Renedy Singh during the week and finally getting the chance on their home turf in Shillong. Many expected an upset on the cards as they faced Churchill Brothers. However the Goans re-established their title credentials with a 2-0 win, in what could have potentially been a very tricky tie for Manuel Gomes’ outfit.

In Pune meanwhile, 10 men Air India succumbed to a 3-1 loss to a stylish Dempo SC, who were boosted by the inclusion of Densill Theobald.

Later on the same evening, the Balewadi sports complex hosted the Maharashtra derby between Pune FC and Mumbai FC. With the Red Lizards running away as 3-0 winners, the only fight that Khalid Jamil’s men offered was when they got into a scuffle with the Pune FC players, an incident which saw two clubs have a player sent-off each.

Salgaocar SC also are now well on the path of recovery, as they continued their recent good run and handed the hapless HAL Bangalore side a 4-0 thumping.

Chirag United lost out on a golden opportunity to come out of the relegation zone, as they slumped to a 1-0 loss to Prayag United in Kolkata.

Meanwhile Sporting Clube de Goa epitomised the unpredictability that is part and parcel of the I-League. Having won just one game in their last 8 eight games, that too their previous tie being against the Arrows, the Flaming Orange came up with an inspired performance as they defeated Mohun Bagan 2-1 in an entertaining game in Goa.
