Back in KolkataChirag United rounded off the transfer deadline day by signing Indian national team striker Sunil Chhetri till the end of the season. Sunil was released by MLS outfit Kansas City Wizards earlier this month.
Chhetri scored twice in Asian Cup 2011 and was linked with a move to A-League's Perth Glory.
However it was Kolkata outfit Chirag United, who beat Bhaichung Bhutia's United Sikkim, to sign the former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal striker.
The news was confirmed by a top official from the club when he was quoted saying, “We can confirm that Chirag United have signed Sunil Chhetri till the end of this season.”
Subrata Bhattacharya's side also completed the signing of South Korean midfielder Choi Young IL on the same day. Choi, a former player of FC Seoul and FC Hyundai Mipo FC, has also been signed till the end of this season, thus becoming the club’s foreign recruit of Asian origin.
