Former EPL Player to take charge of red and goldsEast Bengal on Friday announced the appointment of former English Footballer Trevor James Morgan. The former Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City Player was Developmental Coach in Hull City during Phil Brown regime in the club.
The Red and Gold brigade had earlier announced the appointment of former Portuguese coach Manuel Gomes. But that was without prior notification to Gomes himself. Subsequently, after many rounds of discussions the talks failed and the Portuguese got a better offer from Saudi Arabia, thus bringing the Indian club back to square one.
This time round though the club officials acted more seriously and announced the name of the coach after finalizing all terms and conditions with the man in question. Britisher Morgan has previously represented clubs, Bournemouth, Exeter, Bristol Rovers, Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers in his 17 years long illustrious career in English football. After that, he also had a short spell in Hong Kong where he played for South China FC.
As a manager Trevor has been assistant to Terry Cooper at Birmingham City and Exter FC, before moving on to Asia where he held independent roles at Sorreto FC in Australia, Sarawak FA in Malaysia and Singapore's Sengkang Pungkol. His most recent coaching assignment took him back to England where he was part of the coaching staff at Hull under Phil Brown. There he was mostly responsible for coaching youth players.
East Bengal secretary Mr.Kalyan Majumdar announced the appointment and confirmed, "Trevor James Morgan shall join the team in last week of July after returning from Perth, Australia. He shall have an interaction with the current players and then decide on his back room staff."
While all other teams have started training, East Bengal are delaying theirs due to this reason but the the club officials insist it will not affect their preparations. "There is no hurry to start off our training. Right now we shall not have our full squad as most players are in the Indian camp at Portugal or are playing in Santosh Trophy."
