Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Chirag United by a solitary goal after eventual 'Man Of The Match' Anthony D'Souza gave Vishwas Gaonkar's side the lead, but it all went to waste, as Mumbai FC beat Mohun Bagan thus ensuring the Mumbai club's survival.

While it was an inconsequential match for the home side, Sporting took the field with a motive to gain three points in order to harbour any hopes of staying in the I-League.

Chirag started on a positive note as Denson Devdas was feeding good long passes to Brazilian striker Josimar. However the Chirag top scorer was looking slightly off colour probably due to lack of support upfront.

The first major chance of the game fell to the home side in the 24th minute when Josimar beat the offside trap and was one-on-one  with goalkeeper Felix but the Brazilian’s shot was well wide of the target.

The visitors too got some half chances, which fell to Junior and Adil Khan, but an alert Chirag defence led by Eduardo made sure that the score line remained intact.

After a not so entertaining first half referee Rizwan Ul Haq blew the whistle to mark the end of proceedings, with Sporting knowing that only a win would give them any chance of surviving.

The half time pep talk seemed to have worked for the visitors as they got an early chance in 48th minute when a quick fire shot from Nathinel Amos kissed the post and went out for a goal kick.

The pressure continued as the Chirag players were restricted to their half, as the Sporting midfield controlled ball possession well. Micheal Tayo was influential as Sporting had good passing movement, but Amos seemed to have left his scoring boots in Goa as he missed several clear opportunities back to back.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute when Adil Khan played a wonderful ball from the midfield to the edge of the penalty area to youngster Anthony D'Souza, whose shot was well placed to beat Chirag goalkeeper Sandip Nandy.

The home side also started creating their own chances and the closest they came to equalizing was in the 75th minute when a Gouranga Dutta header went outside for a goal kick after hitting the post.

The match finally ended with SC Goa sealing three points, but they weren't enough to save them from getting relegated, as Mumbai FC won their game againt Mohun Bagan. Goal scorer Anthony was adjudged the Man of the Match.
