Viva Kerala’s A.M.Sreedharan pulled off his first victory as a Viva Kerala coach in Goa as they beat Sporting Clube De Goa 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in a 18th round I-League encounter.

A Sirajudden inspired Viva Kerala were too hot to handle for Sporting Clube De Goa as the midfielder scored and provided an assist while Agnelo pulled one back for the home side.

Sporting Clube De Goa and Viva Kerala were without their foreign strikers in the form of Junior Elijah and Reuben Senyo due to suspension.
It was the team from Kerala, who are known to press the opponents early on, didn’t disappoint when Sabeeth’s attempt to chip the ball saw Sporting’s Felix D’Souza averting the danger early on.

However, it was the end of the first quarter that Viva Kerala took the lead when Sirajudden’s stinging shot saw Felix D’Souza save with Sabeeth slotting in the rebound.

The Flaming Oranje looked below par as they couldn’t create enough chances as they allowed Sirajudden and Karma to control the proceedings.
Around the half hour mark, Karma and Sirajudden combined with the latter’s left footer from inside the box testing Felix, who did well to deny Viva from doubling their lead.

The only two opportunities that came for the home side was a long shot from Adil Khan, which was anyways going out, while Bibiano’s floater saw Tayo go up for a header which was well defended.

At the start of the second session, Sirajudden laid the ball for Karma who sent in an inch perfect cross for Sabeeth, whose header was way off target despite being unchallenged.

Sporting showed some attacking verve with Adil Khan’s long shot off Viva custodian’s chest while Agnelo’s shot came off the crossbar from a Bisheshwor Singh’s center from the right.

The home’s side defensive fragilities were on display when Shibinlal dispossessing Kenji Arai sent the ball for Sirajudden who slammed it in to give Felix D’Souza having no chance whatsoever to stop it.

The very next minute, Sporting were lucky to pull one back with an offside goal as a floater from the right saw Amos head it towards Agnelo, who was way behind the last Viva defender, and did enough to find the back of the net to give the home fans some hope.

Joseph Pereira had one opportunity but nothing really came off it. Viva Kerala defended their lines well as Sporting never really showed the urgency needed and one wouldn’t be surprised to see them go down at the end of the season with a poor performance that was on display on a Sunday afternoon.
