I League: Dempo's Samir Naik And Salgaocar's Ekene Ikenwa (Mango Peel)
Salgaocar went past second-placed Dempo 3-2 at the Fatorda on Sunday, after going a goal down in the first half after Ranti Martins scored. An equalizer from Sabrosa and a brace from Ekene Ikenwa took Karim Bencherifa's side 3-1 up, and even though Dempo got one back through Anwar, it wasn't to be enough for Colaco's men. Salgaocar striker Ekene Ikenwa was named Man of the Match for his two goals.

Dempo came into the game on the back of a shock defeat at Viva Kerala, while Salgaocar had drawn their last two games under Karim Bencherifa.

However, it was Dempo who drew first blood in the derby, as Ranti Martins continued his good form since returning from injury, and gave Armando Colaco's side the lead in the 33rd minute.

Salgaocar though, have come to be known for their fighting spirit, and responded just four minutes later, through skipper Luciano Sabrosa.

Salgaocar had the upper hand after equalizing, and took the game to Dempo, with the reward coming in the 41st minute, as Ekene Ikenwa scored his first of the game to give Salgaocar a 2-1 lead at half time.

Dempo needed to give a response, and they did so at the hour mark, as Anwar scored his second goal in three games, restoring parity and sending the Dempo fans at the ground into delirium.

However, it wasn't long before Salgaocar sruck again, and their gung-ho approach to attacking play paid off as Ekene scored his second of the match in the 66th minute to seal the game for the Men in Green.

Sabrosa as usual was strong at the back for Salgaocar, and led the backline well as they held on for a famous win against Dempo, which gives Salgaocar fans bragging rights in the city.

Dempo missed out on the opportunity to wrest back first place from Mahindra United, and remain second, while Salgaocar jump one place up into 11th place, as they have a superior goal difference to Air India, who too produced a shock result today, beating Pune FC.

Goalscorers:

Salgaocar - Luciano Sabrosa (37'), Ekene Ikenwa (41', 66')

Dempo - Ranti Martins (33'), Ali Anwar (60')
