The All India Football Federation (AIFF) hasn’t yet received any positive response from any of the state associations to host the U-19 I-League, which wasn’t held in the last calendar year.

In a letter sent to all the I-League clubs, the Indian FA stated its desire to have the U-19 I-League from the first of next month and mentioned in case, no one comes forward to host the tournament, an event management company would be asked to take over.

Meanwhile the last time when the tournament was held, teams other than those playing in the I-League also participated but this season, the Indian FA has decided to reverse to its original format of having only the I-League teams.

U-19 implies those studying in class XI and XII but interestingly students have their exams in March, which means that they aren’t practicing daily. Thus, the U-19 tournament starting in the first week of next month wouldn’t see the best of football in case it goes ahead as per the tentative plan.

There is also a possibility that the U-19 tournament might be postponed to May due to the above mentioned reason.

Teams have been divided into three groups with the top two qualifying from each group into the next round and following which, the winner shall emerge.

Group A: Mahindra United, Mumbai FC, Air India, Pune FC

Group B: Dempo SC, Churchill Brothers, Sporting Clube De Goa, Salgaocar SC, Viva Kerala

Group C: East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Chirag United, JCT, Shillong Lajong
